Tour ends: Windhoek
Depart Windhoek for the Kalahari area of Namibia. The Kalahari covers a huge area including Botswana, South African and south east & eastern Namibia. The destination today is Bagatelle Kalahari Game Lodge near the town of Mariental. There is so much to do at Bagatelle including game drives, night drives, Bushmen walks and horseback safaris.
Head for the second largest Canyon in word after the Grand Canyon in the US. The Fish River Canyon is 160 km long, up to 27 km wide and at its deepest over 550 m deep. Visit the canyon view point for sunset or sunrise and take the scenic hiking trail along the rim of the canyon. Day visitors are not allowed to go down into the canyon.
Spend two nights at Aus. Aus is famous for the wild desert horses that roam the area. Take a day tour to Luderitz to visit the town as well as Kolmanskop – the ghost town which was once a flourishing diamond mining town now is taken over by the dunes of the Namib Desert.
Head to the world famous red dunes of the Sossusvlei area. A visit to Sesriem Canyon is highly recommended in the late afternoon. An early morning or late afternoon visit to the Sossusvlei area is recommended, this is the best time for photos and it does get quite hot in the desert even in the winter months. The second night we recommend travelling onward to the Naukluft Mountains area, an oasis in the Desert environment.
Beautiful desert landscapes await on the drive to Swakopmund. Kuiseb Canyon, Gaob Pass and pass the Tropic of Capricorn are all highlights on todays` drive. Stop off at the Walvis Bay Lagoon where large numbers of flamingos and pelicans feed. Your final destination today is Swakopmund. Enjoy a meal at one of the many excellent restaurants who specialize in sea food or game meat.
The next day you can explore some of the many activities on offer in Swakopmund from Quad biking in the dunes to sand boarding, dolphin cruises and sky diving.
You can head up toward the Skeleton Coast today with an optional visit to Cape Cross Seal Colony before heading east to the Damaraland area. Twyfelfontein Rock Engravings is well worth a visit this afternoon or the next morning. The Save the Rhino Trust is also a site you could visit while in the area.
Today head for the premier game park of Namibia – The Etosha National Park where you spend 2 nights. Spend time on game drives in your own vehicle or join a guided game drive which is offered from all the rest camps at an additional charge.
Head to the Waterberg area today. The Waterberg is home to some rare species of animal including the sable and roan antelope, black and white rhino as well as leopard, cheetah and rare sightings of lion. The Plateau rises up to 420 m above the surrounding savanna making for fantastic scenery.
