Camp Kwando

Camp Kwando

Many people on self-drive safaris use Camp Kwando as the perfect base to explore Mundumu and Nkasa Rupara (formerly Mamili) National Park and then on to Bwabwata National Park and Victoria Falls. Found on the banks of the beautiful Kwando River, this camp is perfectly situated for relaxation amongst the riverine forest.

It’s a privately owned lodge that works in close collaboration with the local community to ensure that they benefit from the income generated. Most of the staff come from the local villages and building materials, as well as curios for the shop, are locally sourced in order to generate an income for those living in the surrounding area.

The cool swimming pool, open-sided dining area, thatched lapa and well-stocked bar are the perfect places to relax after a day of game viewing – and solar panels provide 24 hours of electricity. Delicious cuisine is served up by the friendly and experienced lodge chefs.

  • Tented chalets: These thatched chalets are perched on platforms overlooking the Kwando River. A private porch and open-sky bathroom are found in each chalet and in-room safes are also provided. Two beds and mosquito nets are found in each chalet. One of these tented chalets is a family unit.
  • Luxury chalets: The luxury chalets are also found on wooden raised structured but these spacious units are located higher up in the trees – offering sweeping views over the plains below. En-suite bathrooms, big beds, mosquito nets, a lounge and a private deck make these as comfortable as possible and a ceiling fan helps to cool things down.
  • Campsite: Shady campsites covered in a lawn are perfect for travellers on a budget. There are shared ablutions with hot and cold water and there are 4 campsites out of the 10 that has an electrical outlet.
